Electrical Grid System

I’d like to suggest an Electrical Grid system that would make restoring and maintaining electricity in the world more engaging and encourage cooperation between players.

1. Grid Zones and Electrical Boxes

The map could be divided into multiple zones, each with its own electrical box. Players would need to repair these boxes to restore power to their homes. However, the main power plant would have to be repaired and brought back online first.

All electrical boxes would need to be connected through adjacent grid zones, sharing borders to maintain a continuous power network. This would make the layout of the grid important and give players a reason to work together to restore power across the map.

2. World Event: Zombie Horde

Once the main power plant is repaired and activated, a world event could trigger, attracting nearby zombies to the power plant. The horde would attack and damage the electrical infrastructure, eventually shutting down the entire grid for a set number of hours.

This would create a recurring challenge rather than allowing players to restore electricity permanently after a single repair.

3. Power Plant Upgrades and Cooperation

Players could prevent or delay future grid failures by working together to gather the necessary materials and upgrade the power plant's walls and defenses.

These upgrades would make the power plant more resistant to zombie attacks, increasing the time before the next grid shutdown. Higher upgrade levels could require more resources and greater cooperation between players.

4. Electricity-Dependent Tools and Industrial Machinery

Power from the main power plant could also be required to unlock or operate advanced tools and large industrial machines.

For example, certain machines could require a stable connection to the electrical grid and need to run on grid power for a specific number of hours to complete production, process materials, or manufacture advanced equipment. Generators would not count toward this requirement, making access to the main power grid essential for progression.

This would give players a strong incentive to restore and maintain the electrical infrastructure instead of relying entirely on personal generators. It would also create new opportunities for cooperation and trade, as players could benefit from access to powered industrial facilities in other zones.

The main goal is to make electricity a shared, world-wide system that requires teamwork, resource gathering, base maintenance, and defending critical infrastructure. By tying advanced tools and industrial production to the power grid, restoring electricity would become an important part of long-term progression rather than just a convenience for individual bases.

5. Strengthen the Progression Incentive

To make the electrical grid a meaningful part of long-term progression, some of the best tools, advanced crafting recipes, and large industrial machines could require access to power from the main power plant.

Certain machines could require a specific number of hours of continuous grid electricity to manufacture advanced components or unlock new production capabilities. Power from personal generators would not count toward these requirements, making the public electrical grid essential for certain stages of progression.

This would create a natural progression loop: players restore the power plant, repair local grid connections, gain access to advanced technology, and then invest resources into upgrading and defending the infrastructure they depend on.

It would also give players a reason to cooperate on a larger scale. Some players could focus on gathering materials and repairing the grid, while others could specialize in maintaining industrial facilities or defending the power plant from zombie hordes.

The key idea is to make electricity more than a convenience. It should be a valuable resource that unlocks new gameplay opportunities, rewards cooperation, and gives players a compelling reason to keep the entire electrical network operational.
